Some people obsess over shoes, others, chocolate. At Hillsdale General Store, we are nuts for vintage transferware, which fills our antique china department upstairs (and also adorns the wall of the private upstairs kitchen and dining area at our kitchen store across the street, which is available for your private class or other food-focused event).
Now, we fully realize many folks are throwing away Grandma’s china these days, but we know they will rue the day. Okay, so you don’t use it every day (trying not to judge here), and perhaps your house is modern (like that’s an excuse) … the fact is, it’s gorgeous stuff, and so usable.
The endless designs, from neoclassical to pastoral, architectural to orientalist, are just so pleasing to the eye. And the colors — classic blue, alluring violet, sturdy brown and much more, can fit into every setting (even modern ones), whether it be a single pitcher filled with flowers on your night stand, or an entire table decked out for company.
So, come ON, get with the program. And if it’s not your thing? We are fine with that because it means there’s more out there for us to discover.
